Jackson Pathfinders make mountains out of mole hills

A couple weeks ago, JCP&L razed their entire right of way through the Bunker Hill Bogs located just off Route 527 in Jackson. The land clearing, while necessary to keep trees away from the high tension powerlines and avoid forest fires, was just a mess. The power company left tree stumps, logs and piles of woodchips with total disregard for safety or the well being of the habitat.
That’s OK, according to the Pathfinders because local residents have offered to help clean up the mess left behind by the power company and where most of us see unecessary destruction, the Jackson Pathfinders see a new opportunity. Today, the Pathfinders began clearing out the debris left by JCP&L and begain making headway into creating Jackson’s first beachfront property and construction of a boat ramp.
The Pathfinders have big plans for this once neglected wildlife habitat. In April, there will be a spring cleanup and they will begin reforesting and landscaping the trails around the bogs and work will continue on creating a beachfront for freshwater fishermen.
