Jersey shore beaches come alive with high temperatures

By

Seaside Park, NJ - In June, New Jersey’s beaches along the Atlantic Ocean in Ocean County were virutally empty thanks to a record monthly rainfall.   In July, beaches were busy on weekends, but there was plenty of parking along the shore during the week.  This time last week, the beaches at Seaside Park and Seaside Heights were only moderately busy, but today, as temperatures rose into the low 90′s across the state, beachgoers packed their beach chairs and umbrellas and descended up on the Jersey Shore, giving our state’s summer tourism industry a much needed boost.

At the beach, temperatures were in the mid 80′s with high humidity and a nice gentle breeze blowing in off the cool Atlantic from the southeast.   The combination of weather and low tides along the shore this afternoon created a perfect beach and sea day for the entire family.

This week is a ‘low tide’ week at the Jersey Shore meaning the waters will be much safer to go in for younger children.  During low tide at the beach, the water is calmer, waves smaller and the depth of the water along the beach are typically much shallower than at high tides.    Today’s Low Tide in Seaside Heights was at 1:05 pm, creating ideal conditions for the entire afternoon.    Each day the low tide time advances roughly 40 minutes.  On Wednesday, low tide will be around 1:45pm, Thursday 2:24pm and Friday’s low tide will be at 3:01pm.

Wednesday’s weather at the beach will be similar to today for most of the morning and afternoon, but late afternoon showers are expected after 3pm, so start your day early.  Beach not your thing?  It’s also a great time to visit Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, Hurricane Harbor or the Six Flags Wild Safari.
