East Veterans Highway continues to supply local hospitals with accident victims

By

Jackson, NJ – They sometimes say that accidents can happen at the most unexpected time.  That is, unless you happen to be driving on East Veterans Highway between Hope Chapel Road and Bennets Mills, then chances are they can happen a regular intervals each week.    When police and road crews in Jackson clear up an accident, you can only imagine if their parting farewells go something like this.  “See you tomorrow Joe.  Same time, same place, right?”.

There are a few hotspots on the road.  The curve at the Jackson Little League Fields, Butterfly Road, Bowman Road and Whitesville Road.     Today’s accident was at the Whitesville Road intersection where just a few weeks ago, a car spun out into the woods and a few weeks before that a sleepy driver passed through the intersection, through a telephone pole, rolled over a few times and ended up on the front lawn of that house across from Whitesville Road on Route 527.    Two weeks ago, just a few feet east, two cars collided near the Bunker Hill Bogs entrance.   Prior to that we had some real dingers that included a few fatalities, the usual trips to the local hospitals, some head ons and a handful of people with life altering injuries.    Did I mention this all happened with in a single 1/2 mile stretch of East Veterans Highway.    In today’s accident, at least one person was wheeled off in a stretcher to the hospital.

It seems that operation of cell phones, speeding and not paying attention is more deadly on this part of the road, because some local residents will tell you, before spitting their chew that “Jackson had this har road fer ’bout twenty odd yers an not nuthin never happent on it” going further, claiming that those who get into accidents pretty much deserve what they get… even the innocent people who they maim, kill and injure.

So what’s the best thing to do for East Veteran’s highway.  Lets stick some children on the corners and roll the dice to save a few dollars on gas each year.  Sure, you may have somebody who was injured in an accident and don’t like seeing what reality looks like.  Sure, you might sit there and joke while people continue to die and get sent to the hospital, who would expect anything less from people afraid to lose a few feet of frontage to the county to save lives.

I could sit here and complain like some, that it’s pretty hard to get work done with the weekly thunderous booms of shattered lives, or the annoyance the nonstop barrage of sirens from emergency vehicles causes while you’re trying to get a project out the door, but that’s the easy way out.  That’s the Jackson way out.

Instead, I’ll choose to continue creating awareness for the closed minded idiots who sit on the APP and here and claim these people deserve it and do what I can to make a difference.  I will continue to pressure the mayor, the police department, the county and the schools to protect the lives of those, like myself who don’t talk on cell phones, never have been in an accident and value the safety of others instead of moaning and griping on the intarwebz every time somebody wants to bring Jackson into the new millenium and out of our glorious past when most roads were dirt and every stop sign had multiple buckshot wounds.

So to people like Jaxsin and Scoopes, who are too ignorant to realize what is happening and too lazy to make a difference in our town and too cowardly to not behind nicknames on the intarwebz I congratulate you on your redneck blend of complacency.
