Jackson Township 2nd highest highway fatality rate in Ocean County. Deadliest Road.

Jackson, NJ -  According to New Jersey State Police Statistics, Jackson Township now ranks second among all Ocean County municipalities when it comes to accident related fatalities on the road.   Last night’s accident on Farmingdale Road pushed the township ahead of Lacey and Stafford when the 4th life this year was lost.    This accident marked a yearly increase in highway fatalities in our town over last year.  In 2008 the township suffered 3 fatalities.  While these numbers are drastically down from 10 fatalities in 2007, It is still just 8 months into the year, with 4 months remaining, October, November and December being notorious for bad weather.

East Veteran’s Highway Deadliest Road in Ocean County

Ocean County Highway Route 527 in Jackson also has the dubious distinction as the County’s most dangerous road as it leads every other road in the County in deaths per township span.   While Route 9 has claimed more lives, the accidents occured spread out over a nearly 40 mile stretch from  Lakewood to Stafford Township.

Route 527 also leads the entire county in fatalities per mile of roadway when plotting accident locations on a map.  The stretch of highway between Bennetts Mills Road and Whitesville Road has more deaths per mile in 2008 than any other road in Ocean County, also making it one of the top 10 deadliest stretches of road in New Jersey according to State Police statistics.   9% of all fatal accidents this year in Ocean County have occured in Jackson Township.  6% of all fatal accidents in Ocean County have occured in this deadly stretch.
