Jackson, NJ – On Saturday, Jackson Township Mayor Mike Reina presented Chelsey Thomas with a proclamation from the town on behalf of her spirited and speedy recovery after sustaining life threatening critical injuries in an car accident on April 20th.
The accident happened on East Veterans Highway when Thomas was a passenger in her friend’s car which spun out of control on the wet road into oncoming traffic. Their vehicle was struck by an oncoming car. All occupants had to be extricated from the vehicles and rushed to the hospital. Both drivers went home that night after being treated for minor injuries.
Chelsey had sustained critical neck and spine injuries and Chesley was placed on a breathing machine and there were doubts from the medical staff regarding her outcome. Chelsey spent nearly a month in a coma.
Now, nearly six months after her near death experience, Chelsey is on a fast track to recovery thanks to the doctors who treated her, but also to her spirit and dedication towards recovery has exceeded even the expectations of doctors.
“We gave Chelsey a proclamation because she’s a very strong will athletic girl who overcame this crash and now has her eyes set on returning to school in January despite the odds” said Mayor Reina of the proclamation. Chelsey, who had been a longtime cheerleader for Jackson Pop Warner was also honored in a May 15th benefit called “Cheers for Chelsey” in which the community came out and raised money to assist the Thomas family with Chelsey’s medical expenses.
