Jackson, NJ – At approximately 10 PM on Friday night, a vehicle traveling on Cedar Swamp Road (Route 527) just south of Freehold Road flipped and overturned across the opposite lane and came to a stop in the woods near a residence according to witnesses at the scene. There were no injuries reported in this accident.
This accident is the second roll-over accident on Route 527 in less than a week. On Sunday Morning, November 15th, a car lost control and flipped over into the parking lot at the Jackson Little League Complex on East Veterans Highway.
A witness who heard Sunday’s crash said “Had there been a Little League game going on when this happened, this guy could have wiped out two carloads of people”.
Sunday’s accident occured just feet from where three Jackson Township high school students died in a 2007 car crash in what has become known as a dangerous curve on the deadly 3 1/2 mile stretch of East Veterans Highway which has claimed 5 lives since the spring.
County officials have previously identified the curve at the little league complex as one that will be ’softened’ in the 2010 roadway improvement project. Although the curve has been the scene of dozens of accidents over the years and playground warning signs are displayed, the speed limit here remains 50 mph and few drivers heed the speed limit reduction warning sign on the turn.
Earlier in the day today, a Jackson Township School Bus crashed into an SUV nearby on West Commodore Boulevard in which some students reported minor injuries and the driver and passengers of the vehicle struck by the bus were taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center, one by helicopter.
