Seasonal Flu Clinic in Toms River November 30th

The Ocean County Health Department will be holding a seasonal flu clinic Monday, November 30th at the Ocean County Health Department, 175 Sunset Avenue, Toms River, New Jersey. The seasonal flu shots are available for people 6 months and above from 9:00 a.m. through 12 p.m.. Pneumonia shots will also be available at this site. The flu and the pneumonia shot are free if enrolled in Medicare Part B. If not enrolled in Medicare Part B or if you have a Medicare Managed Care Plan the cost will be $20.00. If you are requesting a pneumonia shot and are under the age of 65 years, a note from your physician is required.
Those who have appointments for their children at the pediatric flu clinic on Thursday, December 3rd, are requested to keep that appointment on that day. Vaccine has been reserved for those children who have appointments.
The seasonal flu shot will not protect you from the H1N1 influenza nor will the H1N1 vaccine protect you from seasonal flu. The Ocean County Health Department continues to plan its H1N1 vaccination clinics as vaccine is received. The public will be notified through the media and the Ocean County Health Department website at www.ochd.org.
People who should get the seasonal flu shot are:
· Children ages 6 months and above
· Anyone 50 years of age or older
· Women who will be pregnant during influenza season (prescription required for vaccination)
· Anyone with chronic health conditions or weakened immune system
· Anyone with certain muscle or nerve disorders that can lead to breathing or swallowing problems
· Residents of nursing homes and other long-term care facilities
· Health care providers
· Household contacts and caregivers of:
-Children from birth up to 5 years of age
-People 50 years and older
-Anyone with medical conditions that put them at higher risk for severe complications from influenza
