Jackson Fire Department offers post blizzard safety tips

Jackson, NJ – While many township residents continue digging themselves out of the Noreaster that has just
passed through town,  Jackson Fire District #3 Chief Ken Byrnes advises residents on some additional safety
measures they may not have thought of.
Residents who have fire hydrants in front of their homes are asked to keep those hydrants clear and
accessible and to make sure their home address is visible on their house or mailbox to help emergency crews
find your home should you require assistance.
“Of course we would like everybody to stay off the road to allow snow plow crews to do their job as well as
limit the possibility of motor vehicle incidents.” Byrnes said in a statement to Jackson NJ Online “Use
caution shoveling snow from driveways, taking frequent breaks and in addition we ask that those homes that
have fire hydrants in front them, that the hydrant also be cleared of snow. Make sure your house number is
still visible on your home or street mailbox, not snow covered for easy identification.”
Township crews have been working tirelessly since snow began falling yesterday morning  clearing roads and
responding to emergencies.
