Jackson Memorial Marching Band presented with Espirit de Corps Award by US Marine Corps

The Jackson Memorial High School Marching Band travelled to Annapolis, Maryland this past weekend to compete in the USBBA National marching band championships. The Jags finished 4th overall General Effect, 6th in overall marching and 6th in overall percussion, but didn’t come hop empty handed. They were awarded the 2010 Espirit de Corps Award presented by the United States Marine Corps. The award is giving to the band that best exemplifyies the United States Marine Corps traits, of pride, professionalism and patriotism.
From here, the band has a very busy schedule. The band will be featured at 10:10 am Thanksgiving day in the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade which will be televised live on WABC-TV 6. Band Director Bud McCormick says the band well be performing “Strike up the Band”, an arrangement by McCormick and Jessie Katona.
“We were just told by ABC-TV today, that our Band will be featured at 10:10am on Thanksgiving Day. We were be performing from 10:10-10:15am LIVE from in front of the Art Museum.” McCormick said earlier this week.
This year, the band dropped traditions and created a unique tribute to U.S. Veterans and the end of the War in Vietnam with a performance based on the hit Broadway musical, Miss Saigon.
