Great Family Travel Destinations: The Divi Little Bay Beach Resort St. Maarten
By Staff Report

St. Maarten – If you’re looking for a quiet slice of paradise in the Caribbean, you may want to consider the Divi Little Bay, located on the 45 square mile island that is St. Maarten/St. Martin. The island itself offers visitors to experience Caribbean culture with a mixed Dutch and French influence.
St. Martin was discovered in 1493 on Christopher Columbus’ second voyage to the New World. The island has been split between Dutch and French control since the signing of the Treaty of Concordia in 1648 and remained pretty much the same for the next 350 years. The northern side of the island is controlled by France while the southern portion is under the control of the Netherlands
On the French side, visitors are treated to French influenced Caribbean cuisine, seaside timeshares and most famously, it’s nude beaches. However, the Dutch side of the island lends itself to being a more family friendly destination. Remember when visiting St. Maarten that while the French use the Euro, the Dutch still use their own Gilders as currency.
One of the most unique features of St. Martin is the Princess Juliana International Airport as planes land on a runway just feet behind Mahalo beach. But far from Mahalo beach lies Little Bay and the Divi Little Bay Beach Resort. The resort is located on a private peninsula overlooking two beautiful bays offering a stunning and picturesque landscape great for any kind of vacation.
At Divi Little Bay, while it is a sizable complex, you can’t help but to feel the seclusion of the property. There are spacious hill top suites and beachfront rooms with a full service staff. The roofs of the buildings are covered in terracotta and wrap around the beautiful bay which offers crisp white sand beaches, palm trees and the calm clear blue Caribbean Sea.
On our visit to St. Maarten, we fell in love with the Divi Little Bay and can’t wait to go back. It was a nice and quiet vacation away from tourist hot spots and large crowds, but don’t be confused, St. Maarten offers the best of both worlds.
The Divi Little Bay Beach Resort was voted in both categories as one of “Best Family Vacation Resort” and “Best Bang For Your Buck” in the Caribbean by readers of Caribbean Travel & Life Magazine.
