Team Jackson wins 7th consecutive JSJWL title
By Phil Stilton
With Sebastian Rivera, Freddy Teranova and brothers Matthew and Michael Russo having a season combined record of 116-2, it was bad news for Toms River as the Jackson Junior Jaguars captured their 7th straight title. The Jaguars now have a 110 consecutive win streak to take along with the championship in to the 2011 season next fall. This year, Rivera finished the season 29-0, Teranova 31-0 and Mike Russo 29-0. Matt Russo who finished 27-2 got the clinching victory in the title match and finished his season as the Jr. Jag’s all time win leader with a 109-3 career record.
The success of Jackson wrestling at the high school level has always depended on the quality of wrestling at the youth level. With a feeder program that has set down 110 opponents in a row and has just won their 7th consecutive title, the Jackson Liberty and Jackson Memorial wrestling programs have a lot to look forward to in the coming years. It was a great start for new head coach John Reese who had taken over the program this year from long time coach Jim Huxford.
