PRESS RELEASE HEADLINE
(Make sure your headline or title is a compact version of your overall message. Do not make your title too long. Use a maximum of 10 words in your title)
Ensure your headline is in Bold lettering and a larger font than the body of your release. On our website, simply adding your headline in the title field of our submission form will automatically do this for you.
Headlines are traditionally written in present tense.
Do not CAPITALIZE EVERY WORD. Your press release will be ignored by most editors and writers if you capitalize every word. Only capitalize the first word and proper nouns.
Writing the body of your release
Anytown, NY (If your location is critical to the success of your press release add a byline which includes your town and state to attract local attention) - The Opening Paragraph of your press release should give a clear overview of your entire message, this is called your lead sentence. The two sentences following your lead sentence should expand upon the idea or message in your opening or lead sentence.
Avoid using run-on sentences, long sentences or complex language in the body of your release. The release should be to the point and concise.
“If you wish to include quotes in your release, make sure they are written in the third person .” said the writer “I think if I write my release in the first person, my message won’t be as effective to the customers which I am targetting.”
Only state facts in your press release. Do not induldge in catchy marketing or sales phrases such as “Be sure to get your copy today while they are in stock!” or “My Store, You need it, we have it!”. When editors browse your press release any “gimmicky” or “over sold” press releases are usually discarded without reading. You will also lose the credibility of your readers.
Remember to express the WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN and WHY of your message in your release.
