Onlineshoes.com founder Dan Gerler sold his first pair of shoes at age 11 in the north Seattle Red Wing store his father opened in 1968. Over the years, the family business steadily grew in the Puget Sound, and in 1983 Dan stepped into a leadership role as its president and CEO. He immediately set out to forge lasting relationships with well-established vendors like Rockport and New Balance, and opened stores on the East Coast in 1986.

When Internet rumblings later began to surface, he saw an opportunity to exponentially increase sales volume while preserving the old-fashioned ideals of exceptional value and service. In 1996, Dan launched Onlineshoes.com, working with a handful of employees and a single computer out of a back room in the original Seattle store.
