By KEITH RUSCITTI • TOMS RIVER BUREAU • October 20, 2009 JACKSON — Four township streets will undergo improvements as a result of a $200,000 state grant. Paving and repair work will be performed on Docare Road, Challenger Way, and Gomberg and Montefiore roads, according to Mayor Mike Reina. In a statement issued Monday, Reina said work will begin on the roads after the new year. “There are additional roads in Jackson Township that need some attention, (but) these roads are predominantly dirt roads and are in major disrepair,” Reina said. The funds are a part of the state Department of Transportation’s municipal aid program. Full article at app.com
The original, complete letter can be viewed at the Jackson Times website . It seems mayoral candidate Stallone has plenty to say about Mike Reina. So much that he forgets to tell us what he would like to do. I have some questions to ask Mr. Reina, but unfortunately, he did not attend the last township council meeting. The mayor is not required to attend Council Meetings because he is not a member of the Council. Of course Mike attends most meetings to answer questions from members of the Council as well as the public. From time to time his work schedule, or ceremonial activities in the township conflict with meeting dates. Mr. Reina, what are you trying to hide? If Mr. Stallone would like answers, he should attend more than the few meetings before the election. Anyone that has had dealings with Mike knows he is available, forthcoming and sincere in his dealings. Ten months ago when Councilman Reina was appointed mayor, he stated that he would not take the higher mayor’s salary (township council minutes, November 25, 2008). When the paychecks arrived, lo and behold, Reina took the higher mayor’s salary, a whopping raise for himself. This is part of what transpired, but Mr. Stallone leaves much to the imagination. Mike Reina was allowed to vote for himself, according to Township Attorney George Gilmore, as long as he agreed not to accept a salary that was higher than his salary as a councilman
Mayor Reina and Ken Bressi are the most experienced and dedicated individuals we have running for a seat in Jackson’s government. Both have given many hours (without compensation) as chairman on the planning board and other areas of civic service. Reina and Bressi are good family men who have tried to give something back to their town. They are also fiscal conservatives, which is exactly what we need today. I hope you agree and vote for the Leadership, Experience, Results Team of Mike Reina for mayor and Ken Bressi for council. Carol Scull, Jackson

Jackson, NJ – Today was “Dogs for Dads” for Kindergartners of Mrs. Davenport’s class at the Lucy N. Holman Elementary School. A day for kids to say thanks to dad in advance of Father’s Day, but it was also a special day for the kids and their fathers as they were treated with a special mystery guest, Jackson Township Mayor Mike Reina.
