Target’s “Take Charge of Education” fundraiser has donated over $45,000 Jackson Township Schools

Target Stores have donated over $45,000 to Jackson Township schools to date with their Take Charge of Education program.   Through this program,  parents can register their target card or checking account to automatically donate 1% of their total purchase directly to their child’s school at no cost to the parent or cardholder.    So, for every $100 you spend, target will donate $1.

In these troubling economic times which have seen programs and services fall to the axe of budget cuts, this is just one way to raise money for your child’s school without a cost to taxpayers.   In our district, Jackson Liberty High School parents have far out paced all other schools with over $13,500, or 30% of contributions donated since joining the program.

As Jackson residents, all of your target purchases currently help the districts of Freehold, Toms River and Howell, but this is a great way to take some of that money back for our own children.   By encouraging parents, senior communities, members or sports and political organizations to sign up for the Red Card program, we can help alleviate some of the tax burdens and cuts we have had to face over the years in regards to public education.

Currently 458 people have signed up for the program which directly benefits Jackson Township Schools averaging $100 in contributions per person.    Lets see if we can double this number and get the entire community involved.   We all shop at target, there’s no reason not to enroll in this program.

Jackson NJ Online going regional

As a transplant in Jackson from Toms River and a lifelong resident of Ocean County, I’ve decided to expand the coverage of this blog to include the towns that directly border Jackson, which are Freehold, Lakewood, Toms River and Howell.    One of the unfortunate realizations I have come to is that while Jackson is a great place to live, those other communities play such an important role for residents in Jackson.

While always sticking to the core principle of being a Jackson only website, in the future you will find articles and information about things to do in the towns surrounding ours.   Freehold is a vital link to Jackson for it’s restaurants, the Freehold Mall, Freehold Raceway and an untold amount of shopping excursions to be had.

Howell to the northeast is home to even more chain restaurants, shopping, Wal-Mart and Target.

Lakewood is the town to our east that will probably always be there, but who can deny the BlueClaws, the industrial park and who gets more of our property tax money than our own residents?

After being here in Jackson for 5 years, I realized most Jackson residents do not go south since many new residents are from the north.   Very few people make that terrifying jump from Toms River to Jackson, most people I have met in my travels tend go the opposite direction.   Toms River and its surrounding area offer up plenty things to do with less hassle, but nearly the same amount as traffic as Freehold.

When I say talk about things in those towns, I don’t mean politics, news , schools or culture, what I mean is what fun and entertaining activities, parks and recreation areas can be found just a hop, skip and a jump across the Jackson border.

Jackson Snow Day in Pictures

As promised while I was out running my errands today, I snapped some pictures around town.

Day off for the town council?

It’s a snow day and Jackson and it looks like I’m not the only one taking the day off to frolic in the snow.   Apparently Councilwoman Bobbie Rivere didn’t get the memo.  Today is a snow day!     I was hoping to get a picture of some of the council members having a snowball fight, but it looks like they called out too today.   Before any political extremists decide to use this picture and say “ZOMG OMG! THEY AREN’T WORKING TODAY! MY TAX DOLLARS ARE WASTED”, just relax and take your Xanax, wait 20 minutes and think about it first.

Jackson Residents begin digging out
All around town every one’s digging themselves out.  It took me about  three hours to dig our house out, but that includes my unplanned trip to County Line Hardware after the tire on my snow blower came off the rim.   I knew it needed air, but I was just too lazy to fill it.  This resident on Jackson Mills has the right idea, lawnmower snow plow!

Township Plowing the Way

Township plow trucks were out in full force.  The roads major roads were pretty clean at 9am considering how much snow we got. I was hoping to see some Mr. Plow trucks, but for yet another year of my life I need to come to grips with the Simpsons not being real.

Beware of stupid and crazy people

Here we see a crazy person, probably NOT from Jackson, because we’re all nice people in this town, passing me doing about 45 on the right at the intersection of Route 527 and Jackson Mills Road.   Keep an eye out for stupid drivers.  They’re out there today and you don’t have to look that far.

Jackson Jungle

Jackson Jungle is not exactly the best choice for children to enjoy their day off, well I guess kids are all home playing Xbox and Wii anyway.  Do they even know it snowed?

The Toms River

Yep, that’s a shot of the Toms River.. in Jackson.    The river passes through Jackson and this vista can be accessed from the road in the NJ State Forestry center on Route 527.

Toms River Again

If you look the opposite way from the picture above, this is the other wonderful view you get.  There’s some nice hiking trails along the river here, so when the snow melts and it gets warmer, just remember treadmills are for hamsters. Go out and explore Jackson.

Muhahaha Kids.  School should be open tomorrow

Well, I can’t make any promises but school maintenance workers are busy clearing sidewalks, salting and doing their best to open schools for tomorrow.  We’ll find out soon enough if the kids will be able to squeeze another day out of this storm or we get to send them off in the morning.

Snowy Road

This is the road leading out of the State Forestry center.  Kinda neat I guess.

Neither Rain Nor Sleet or Snow….

Yes, the United States Postal Services comes through for us again.

Mark Seda’s Road to Nowhere

One road that definitely won’t see any snow plows this week is Mark Seda’s road to nowhere.  How can we forget our former mayor and his ambitious plan to link Butterfly Road to Johnson Park, ignoring DEP regulations and plowing through a protected wildlife area so the Jackson Day exit traffic won’t be so bad in the future.  While most of the road has vanished and been reclaimed by nature, the dilapidated gate at the entrance serves as a reminder of the good old days.
